Slovenia
Well, Slovenia really is very beautiful. And the people are so friendly. They each seem to speak about four languages, so English isn’t a problem, and they’re happy to talk to you and explain things.
Ljubljana itself is very pretty, and our hostel, which was once a prison, is very comfortable. We have bunks, and you have to share the showers, and don’t get any curtains at the window, but still I have had the best two nights’ sleep I’ve had in ages since arriving here. We took the bus out to Bled yesterday to see the famous lake. 2km long, it is so clear you can see the thousands of fish swimming by. There is a backdrop of snowy mountains, and a small church on an island in the middle. You can see why it is heaving in the summer, but as the season only began on 1st May, as far as most of Slovenia seems to be concerned, we had great swathes of it to ourselves.
We move on to Zagreb in Croatia at lunchtime, so we’re just making use of the free net connection at the hostel while we pack our bags and get ready for the train. I think we’ve seen pretty much everything Ljubljana has to offer, but I’d have liked a little more time in Slovenia in generar - in particular so that we could do down into the cakes and see the rare human fish, but I guess that’s a good reason to come back some time.
