How fantastic to be off work for a day. A week, in fact, but we’ll take it one day at a time.
It is a week with two missions, though. First, to break the back of the book writing. Susie and I sat in the Movie Cafe on Friday and I promised there and then that I’d make some good progress. She said she’d check up on me at the start of next week, and I don’t want to disappoint.
And second… to meet up with friends, old and new.
Today I set out on the first of those missions. I set the alarm to a decent hour, listened to the news, then got up and sat down with the iBook and my notes. Helped along by an endless stream of steaming tea, I got 3,577 words down on paper (or more accurately on screen) and finally switched off with a sense of deep satisfaction.
A package had meanwhile be delivered to mum’s, although with everyone out it had been taken away and a label had been left behind instead. So, after texting Kevin to arange a swift swimming session I drove over to pick up the ticket, then around to Kevin’s to bang on his door.
He was still fuzzy from the excess consumption at last night’s birthday drinks, and appeared at the door in sunglasses.
The pool was unpleasantly crowded. We swam not so much in straight lines as in zig zags around the old women and young kids and we gave up after I’d done a mere 20 lengths (18 for Kevin who was feeling sick). We decamped to the bleachy spa things until they made us both dizzy then hid away in the steam room and sauna.
Everything was far too hot tonight and we couldn’t stand either for as long as we normally would.
Sainsbury’s on the way home, by way of the parcel pickup shed where I discovered that the box contained the wrong piece of software for the wrong kind of computer. Pfft.
Dinner, in front of some disappointing TV, then 24, series 1, episode 1am (ie 2).
