It’s a cliche, but I don’t know where today has gone. The breakfast show slot went very well, and even after doing that, and the washing up before leaving the house I was still in London early enough to take the bus rather than the tube into the centre of town.
I wandered slowly towards the office by way of Tesco to buy scones. All was going well, then, until I got to my desk precisely on time and Leo reminded me I was due in a meeting that very minute. Fortunately it was late starting, but as with all things that start late, it finished late, too, and I was barely out before lunch.
I ate, drank fluffy coffee, and settled down with my headphones and MP3 collection to edit some copy . One ripped album and four pages of copy later, it was time to pack my bags and leave for ITN.
I bumped into Gordon in a sandwich shop on Grays Inn Road and we walked the rest of the way together. It was surprisingly warm, considering the unfriendly grey skies. By the time we were half way through the show, though, and had propped the studio door open for some fresh air, we were both starting to feel the cold creeping in. I think the air-con was being quite efficient this evening.
It was a fun show, as I thought it would be, and the time flew by - that’s what happens when you have a lot of guests. We demoed Shazam, a service that sends you text messages naming the song you’re listening to… as long as you call it up and hold your phone to the speaker. Great in clubs - as long as you’re not dancing.
It’s a great idea, but of course the inevitable happened and a busy network meant the message never arrived while we were showing it off. So much for live techno demos.
Hmmm…
Oh, well. It generated several interesting emails so I guess it went OK.
Sadly not much time for taking listener phone calls to air, but we’ve noted down the numbers and questions so we’ll be able to tackle them next week.
Chris the Midnight Weatherman predicted grumpy weather for the bank holiday weekend. I’m not impressed.
