I didn’t think I was going to make the interview on time. It would have been typical - I’m in the office well before everyone else most days, and then on the day when I need to make a good impression I get stuck on a train for two hours with the driver saying nothing more useful than ‘there’s going to be a long delay’. I called the office to warn them, and then ran from Tottenham Court Road station, so I arrived hot and feeling sick. I needn’t have worried, though, because in the event it was delayed, which gave me time to munch a Toffee Crisp (no time for breakfast) and force down some of the disgusting vending tea (which has actually improved a bit recently).
We started at eleven and I came out of it at ten to twelve without any idea at all how it went. It was one of those strange interviews you feel quite neutral about in the immediate aftermath. I think I did OK, and I think I got all the body language right - nice open posture and all that - probably something doing the radio helps with. Time will tell, though - it’s just a matter of waiting and listening and being patient now.
Got an invite to what looks like being a pretty impressive do next week at Madamme Tusauds, with a briefing on the Planetarium. It’s Thursday evening, though, and I know for a fact that the invites have been floating around for ages, which does rather smack of being on the B list, so I think I’ll give it a miss. If it wasn’t show night I might have reconsidered, but I’ll be arriving late and leaving even later and the car will get locked in at Chelmsford so it’s really more bother than it’s worth. I don’t think there’ll be any new product to play with, either.
Worked late on the Awards pages for the November issue. We’ve got all the results now so it’s a matter of getting it written up as quickly as we can and getting it onto the page. Just one page to go now, which should be finished off nicely tomorrow.
This has been a horrible week, and it’s only Tuesday evening. I feel utterly and completely exhausted. Berlin on Friday. I don’t know how I feel about that. I’m excited about adding another city to the list, and it will be good to be away from my desk, but it means an early morning after a late night, and I could really do with spending the day in the office. Still, as far as I can tell I get the Saturday free and I’ll be in the Four Seasons, which is 10 minutes from the Brandenburg Gate in one direction and the new Parliament building in the other, so there are digicam opportunities aplenty. Oh, I can be so ungrateful some times.
