I ache all over. Perhaps taking my minidisc player to the gym yesterday wasn’t such a good idea after all. It made me run too far - music always does that - and this morning I woke up feeling decidedly uncomfortable. Tired, too. I didn’t get to sleep until late, and bumped into Paul on the 9 o’clock train this morning. He hadn’t slept, either. Perhaps it’s the garlic quorn we had for dinner.
In spite of that, I went again this evening. It was very hard work, though. Even with the music didn’t seem to turn up loud enough to keep me running today and I just about managed to run half of what I managed yesterday. I made up for it by flitting around on the other machines and getting in peoples’ way, though, so I don’t feel too bad.
I have to admit, it is better there now since they got the extra machines a couple of weeks ago, but it’s still very busy in the evenings and the showers are a bit of a state. Parts of the floor are often under half an inch of water and I know of several people who have slipped or almost slipped as they dry themselves. And so, with exaggerated care, you end up tip-toeing naked across the soggy floor. It’s hardly dignified.
My first year’s membership is up in six weeks, after which I’m free to leave if I want to. I’m very undecided, though. I was keen on joining because of all the classes, but I’ve only ever done one - step - on the first weekend it was open. I may as well have stayed at my old gym. At least I was able to go at lunchtime them.
I can’t believe the year has gone by so quickly.
Anyhow, that pretty much knocked me out for the rest of the evening, so I came home and threw a pizza in the oven, then sat down and read through some of the folders under my settee. There are 50 of them now, all full of notes for the book. There is going to have to be some serious distilling done if I’m going to be able to condense them into a single volume.
500 words written.
It’s a start.
