I think I need a holiday. The last two weeks have worn me out. Four flights, a thousand miles of driving, trains, buses, and so much walking I’ve given up even trying to work out how far my legs have carried me. From the way they feel, though, I’d guess it was a long way.
Today’s flight was a fairly unremarkable event. A little bit uppy-downy for the first and last twenty minutes or so, and a very poor meal (in stark contrast to Iceland Air, which served the best economy class meal I’ve ever eaten).
One thing I will say for Lithuanian Airways, though, is that they give you loads of leg room and could easily have slipped in another couple of rows of seats without you thinking anything of it. The seats they did have were rather battered, though, so when we got off I just wanted to get home as quickly as I could. No such luck: the door on the baggage compartment jammed and trapped the bags in the hold, and us passengers in the collection hall, for over an hour.
I’m home now, though, and have already slipped back into the familiar routine. It’s almost scary how quickly that can happen. My piece on tomorrow morning’s breakfast show is already all lined up, I’m up to date on my emails and my bag is sorted out for work.
I’ve brought back copious notes on Lithuania, and will knock them into a travelogue given time. For now, there’s pictures below, and my photo of the TV Tower, which I’m particularly proud of, uploaded here.
Below: interior of the Russian Orthodox church in the monestary near the Gates of Dawn in Vilnius. The altar in the centre of the image with the wooden roof above it holds the preserved remains of three saints. You can see their feet sticking out from beneath an elaborately embroidered cloth.

Below: I found this rather cute. It looks like a baby elephant having a drink from a pond.

Below: One of my favourite pictures, this enormous rusting head looks like a crashed space rocket. It is immense and I could easily have stood inside it without bending down.

Below: Two pictures of almost three thousand television sets arranged on shelves in the woods at the very centre of the continent of Europe.

Below: Trakai, the former capital of Lithuania. It’s very beautiful and many of the old houses on the main street were built by settlers from Baghdad several centuries ago. This is the preserved remains of the main castle, the other being little more than a pile of stones in a car park.
