A very good day, all in all. The train this morning ran to time. The sun shone through the window, and my desk was warm by the time I arrived. The guest list for this week’s programme is shaping up nicely, the coffee machine on our floor is broken, forcing me to go out and get real tea, and my column is written, edited, and waiting to be laid out on the page.

I’ve also had my holiday requests approved. Yay!

So, a week in November, for the bi-annual trip to Center Parcs, recharging the batteries and taking pictures of trees and ferns, but before that I have a meeting in Munich on October. I guess it’s been times to clash rather inelegantly with the Oktoberfest and the requirement that all attendeed consume copious quantities of beer and red meat. Eugh.

Anyhow, I’ve taken a few days off on either side of the meeting so I can spend some time there on my own in the hope it will force me to practice my German.

Hmmm…

Mental note: must learn more vocab.

The badgers are very busy this evening. There are a couple sniffing around on the lawn looking for food. Their heads look like the striped nosecones of Polaris missiles.

Jess doesn’t seem to pay them any attention, which is probably a good thing, considering she’s about a quarter their size.

I seem to have jumped straight into the tail-end of a cold, skipping the usual nose / throat combination in favour of an immediate tickly cough. I’m hoping it will be gone by Thursday. Gordon will be away so I’ll be presenting on my own and I don’t fancy talking for two hours with this.

I’ve raided mum’s cabinet and found some cough mixture. ‘For Oral Use,’ it says on the back of the bottle.

Handy.

One Response to “Badger watch”

Miles says:

Badgers are way cool, they are hunted down for
things they almost certainly don’t do, like TB
in cattle. Plus it was on a badger watch fourteen
years ago that I met my wife!, so they have a
special place in my heart.
