What a day. Everything has happened at once. All the proofs for two sections of the magazine arrived in a bundle and by lunchtime I had about 80 pages to read and sign off. Fortunately Riyad took some of them off my hands mid-afternoon, which considerably lightened the load. Editorial meetings, writing my overdue column and editing incoming copy kept me plenty busy, though, and publisher Joyce is working on the book this week so she called half a dozen times to query bits in the text and some of the pictures.
Guests-wise, the show is in a similar state to this time last week, with a lot of work still to be done. Again, it’s a case of having plenty of feelers out there but little firmed up. I will have to have a concerted bash tomorrow morning before work and hope that it is as successful as it was last week.
Woke up with an achey head. I have been like that for a couple of weeks now. I’m sure it’s stress. It comes and goes and while I’m at work, more often than not is in one of its ‘gone’ phases, but it comes back on the train. It seems to be when I relax. Anyway, that’s my excuse for not making the gym this morning. I’ll try again tomorrow.
I was home earlier this evening than I was yesterday so did the watering in the light. Felt like I was playing a very dangerous game, using the hose in daylight and hoped that nobody could see me. I really don’t know why - there’s no reason why I shouldn’t be using it.
I am much cheered by progress on the book, though. No more has been written yet than yesterday evening, but it’s clearer in my head now. I know where things are going and had a brain-wave on the train, which I’m hoping will help with the writing. If I can just get everything into a logical order it should all flow quite nicely. If it writes quite nicely, too, then that’ll be a bonus.
Paul came round for dinner and I did pasta, and picked us fresh yellow tomatoes from the greenhouse. We had an indulgent night in front of the telly watching reruns on UK Gold.
