Clatter grrr grrr grrr kng kng
That was the sound I heard mid-afternoon as the heads on my hard drive hit the platters and the whole thing died. Several attempted and failed reboots later I admitted it was dead and that I was perhaps cursed. It’s the second time it’s happened in a year.
Two different drives. Two different machines. Same desk. Perhaps that’s the problem.
Of course, once I’d pulled it to pieces and put it back together again it waited until friendly systems guy was standing right behind me before springing back to life. Red face on my part.
Friendly systems guy is sympathetic and eventually disappears. Two minutes later…

I wonder if they have a switch upstairs that makes that happen.
