A good fun show this evening, I think, and a good breakfast show interview this morning. To be honest, I was surprised I was up in time to sound like I was properly awake after not getting to bed until one this morning. Fortunately it was an easy subject, so there was time for some general chatter about broadband and why anyone would want to pay for a service that they probably don’t need, and a good plug for this evening’s show.
You can never really tell whether the programme itself has gone well, but I have a good feeling about this evening’s show. I only really know when I listen to it back on the archive, and even then it’s impossible to be totally objective. Anyhow, tonight ran fairly well. No mistakes that I can immediately remember, a couple of nice phone calls, some good emails, and Steve did a good challenge.
Last week we’d set him the task of finding and singing the lyrics to the winner of the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest using the Internet as his only research tool. He passed with flying colours, and even found a MIDI file of the music to sing along to, which was beyong the call of duty. Shame about the singing, though. I’m glad it’s him and not me that has to show his face in the office tomorrow.
I scooted off quite quickly after we were done, and left Gordon and Steve to wander to the station together while I headed for Debbie’s 40th-birthday party at the Blue Posts.
Apparently there are seven Blue Posts in Soho. Each one marks a boundary of the old central London hunting ground (the hunters used to cry So-Ho rather like everyone imagines posh people say tally ho) and used to be the site of an actual blue post.
Anyhow, I inevitably got the wrong Blue Post pub on my first attempt and ended up doing a wide detour around Nickelodeon to find the right one. I’m glad I did, though, as there were loads of people I’ve not seen in ages, in particular Bobby and Laura.
Had an extensive chin-wag with Ja, did the usual birthday greeting stuff with Debs and caught up on gossip with Bobby. In all, a good evening. Shame it was so short, really. After arriving late I only had time for one drink before I had to get going, but by then people were starting to drift off anyway.
Interesting trip offered today - the Outer Hebridies on 9th - 11th May. Isle of Lewis, specifically. Something about a broadband company putting their call centre there. They want me to come and see it, but have sweetened the pill with a couple of nights on the island and a day watching some annual race or other where competitors have to get from the south of the southern island to the north of the northern island entirely under their own steam.
The PR guy said he hoped I liked flying. An ominous comment…
