Now some people, who didn’t know better, would say that a hat advertising graphics cards, and half a cardboard coffee-cup carrier could not be combined in a stylish and inexpensive way. Of course, they would be fools.

This morning arrived at a very uncivilised hour. Sixish, to be precise, to cater for the breakfast show piece that had been pulled forward by an hour. In spite of the shower and tea I was still groggy as I sat down at the ISDN, Robin yelling ‘hello’ in my headphones. Me yelling ‘hello’ back at the microphone. The microphone, of course, was not plugged in. I’d forgotten I’d unplugged it to do some recording at the weekend and not replaced it. It took a full three minutes to work out what was wrong, so I was on pretty much straight away.
It went well, though, so I got on an early, half-full commuter service at the end of it with a smile.
A busy day of tweaking pages, then fiddling with some rather efficient PHP (unfortunately not my own) at lunchtime. Zipped out at half four for the walk to ITN so we could pre-record a quick piece with Gordon before he descended on a hike into the Grand Canyon. Jealous? Me? Erm…
Anyhow, it was a fun show, and as usual we had far more calls than we had time to take to air. Andrew came in to do the news in the first hour and brought his editorial assistant with him so she could sit in the control room and see how a radio show goes out. It’s certainly more interesting to watch it from there than in the studio.
Spoke with one of the business types from BT, who was pushing the Celebrity Big Brother online voting. I can’t understand why people still watch that show. It’s either people you don’t know or people you probably wouldn’t watch if they were in anything else, yet because they don’t have access to TV or papers, and are stuck in a house with some very expensive web cams, it attracts 7m viewers on its first night.
Truly bizarre.
Feeling very tired. It has been a long week of late nights and early mornings, with busy days sandwiched in between. On Saturday the alarm clock will be very firmly switched off.
