Three worrying stories appeared in the news today.
- From the Economist, enough children to fill a jumbo jet die of diarrhoea every four hours.
- White parents gave birth to black twins through in-virto fertilisation this morning. A doctor speaking on the radio said that this was very rare - it had only ever happed three times before. What nobody thought to ask her, though, was how we really know that. It has only been noticed this time because of the difference in skin colour, but how many white IVF kids are living with the wrong white IFV parents simply because nobody noticed?
- The Media Guardian reports that Channel Four is to shut down the film-production side of FilmFour. This is bad as it pretty much signals the death (again) of the British film industry. What makes it worse, though, is that Channel 4 has meanwhile agreed a deal to screen the frankly past-it Simpsons - at a cost of
