What an exciting day. I put my swimming kit in the car so I could pop into the pool on the way home from work and hurried into the office to put out some feelers for tomorrow’s show. Three direct hits with the first batch, which was a relief, although the Science Museum, which was definately on for it, has been a bit slow naming a name.
I rounded up the rather reluctant team to meet with corporate sales for a getting-to-know you session. We’d booked tables in San Marco coffee shop, but it was too small to take us all so got take-out latte and had a stand-up meeting in the sun in Golden Square, going round in a circle and describing what we do to each other. The ear-wiggers on the benches seemed to enjoy listening, and by the time we got back to the office it was only forty minutes till lunch so we could go out and people-watch in Soho Square.
I don’t know what’s happening to the connections to this site. It’s terribly slow today. In fact, it has been all week. I tried to use the online support thingie at the hosting page, but it bounced back with a ‘we’re closed - please try again later’. In the event I didn’t get around to it as the afternoon was rather interrupted by an upstairs-type announcement. Staff shifting sees our Publishing Director promoted to news things, and our Sales Director stepping in to fill the gap.
I called LBC to talk about tomorrow morning’s breakfast show trail on account of my answerphone still being broken, and then we went to the John Snow for a drink to mark the occasion, and I somehow never quite made it to the pool. Perhaps that’s no surprise. We had a good time - almost the whole team was there; writers, art and production. It’s a long time since we’ve been out in quite such a big group and there was plenty of foolish excitement and smiles. I wish we had more time to go out as a team. Earlier in the year we had been talking about Alton Towers for September, but now September is just two days away and we’ve got nowhere with the plans.
People are going off on holidays now, but I’ve just checked the Alton Towers site and it’s open until the end of October, so perhaps not next month - maybe the one after that.
