Feeling dirty and used… perhaps.

According to those who stayed later at the Xbox launch yesterday, it was a good evening, if a little underwhelming when the first Xbox was actually sold. They apparently pulled up the big curtain that had been sectioning off most of the Megastore at midnight to let in a crowd of … 10 people.
That still hasn’t stopped media reports of fans queueing up to buy themselves a console. Perhaps they were looking at the long line of journalists queueing to get into the party, which would make more sense. In fact, perhaps the fact we were made to queue - a highly unusual thing in itself - was in itself part of the whole promotion. The photographers and camera crews across the road would be far more interested in using footage of a couple of hundred people lining up early in the evening than waiting until the middle of the night to get some uninspiring pictures of a mere dozen.
I suddenly feel dirty and used.
A new piece of kit came into the office today with a very patronising label stuck onto the front. Granted it is aimed at beginners, but perhaps putting ‘no chance’ in bold is a little nasty.

At about the time it appeared I was downloading my spam-laden email and doing my best to pick a safe route through the more obvious pieces of porn. Inside one entitled ‘Bladder Control’ I found some very informative stuff about a new exercise device. I might forward it to my gym to see if they fancy getting one in:
The Kegelmaster 2000 is the first and only progressive resistance vaginal exerciser in the world. It is a specialized exercise device designed to provide the best active resistance exercise to increase the muscular strength of the vagina. Each use will increase the tone of the muscles … This form of exercise is commonly used in … health clubs and sports facilities.
Lunchtime browsing, I turned up this fantastic photo. As the caption states, it’s just like an enormous phoenix rising from the fire.
The show went well this evening. An hour of it was devoted to the Xbox, which seems logical for launch day. Microsoft’s PR people did a good job of lining up the head of marketing to talk about the hardware, and a games developer to tell us what it is like to write for, and we backed them up with another developer who talked about the state of the market in general, and a journalist from the Xbox magazine to talk about gameplay.
Pretty much all angles covered. Rather irritatingly, though, I missed out one of the guests. I had booked PC World to talk about how quickly the Xbox was selling, but somehow forgot to pass the number on and by the time I realised the show was about to start and it was all too late. Hopefully they will agree to talk next week.
After an evening of talking about games consoles, I’ve been bitten by the bug, and been looking on eBay at the old Playstation machines. They’re going for less than
