If today was a review, it’d get five stars. Started off in Purley on a course I was a bit dubious about, wondering how you could do a team building day without the rest of your team there. I soon changed my mind after lunch, though. They took us out to a paddock behind the hotel we were in where they’d set up a bunch of telegraph poles with notches for climbing.

Now I’ve never been one for heights. I’ve been off the diving board a couple of times at Riverside, but you get a soft landing there and I always have to close my eyes. The task for this afternoon, though, was to climb up one of the poles (eyes open) to a small platform at the top, and then leap off, with only the other members of your team and a small ratchet to stop you breaking your neck.

I’ve never had such jelly legs in a long time and almost fell off when I got to the top, but after the first jump I’d have gone right back up and done it again. Whether I’d say that tomorrow after the adrenaline’s gone is another matter. The weather was fantastic. Brilliant sun, and just a light breeze to keep you cool. Couldn’t have been better. You could see for miles.

The show went well. Gordon was in Zambia, though, watching the eclipse. This means he’s beaten me to the southern hemisphere, of course (hmph!). There was an email from him when I got home and logged on, wishing me luck for tonight and saying he was off to hire a car and see some wildlife.

Clive Bull was talking vegetarianism, so I mailed producer Bob and volunteered my home phone number if they needed someone to talk in favour. Apparently they did, and it turned out pretty profitable. Clive mentioned this site and the counter clocked up 34 hits in 5 minutes. Smart.

The flat was full of daddy longlegs when I got home from where the painters had had the windows open.
