Flick flick flick

I’ve turned into a serial flicker. I thought I’d got past that after my first month with cable five years ago, but at the weekend I invested in Freeview and have reverted to type.
So, last night - the first night I was in in time to watch anything, I watched nothing. Or at least nothing more than about 200 snatches of 15 different programmes, none of which was more than three minutes long.
Two Pints of Lager fighting with Newsnight. A very uncomfortable clash. Some historical rubbish on BBC 4 competing with reminiscence rubbish on BBC 2. Sky News competing with QVC.
Rubbish, all of it… but it had me hooked for an hour and a half.
Niall, who technically works in TV, albeit on the sidelines, explained at the weekend that the blue liquid they use in sanitary towel adverts is imported from Germany. All of it. It’s slightly syrupy, a bit gloopy and not in the least like blue water, which I had always assumed it was.
After catching perhaps the tenth demo of it being poured into an irregular shaped piece of fabric in a single evening, I finally decided it was time to turn in. Tonight, I’m glad to say, it’s remained safely switched off.

Nik, why on earth have you got freeview and cable. Doesn’t cable have the same channels as freeview?
