A very sociable weekend, all told. After Friday night’s evening of Yorkshire films, Nigerian TV and Spanish song competitions, Saturday was a walk into town in the sleety rain, and then dinner with Ursula and Mike. Yummy take-away Indian, and then a round of celebrity Trivial Pursuit. Never having read Heat in my life I came fourth. Not bad out of four.
Anyhow, we spent the time waiting for it to arrive alternately talking and watching Making Your Mind Up, the far inferior version of that Spanish Eurovision-picking finale. There was a horrible moment when an inflatable Jordan (marketing herself under the Katie Price brand) looked like she might just make it, but she was fortunately pipped by Javine. Victorious, she went on stage in a very unwise top that obliged to open up in a repeat of Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction and reveal a brief right breast for the 8pm BBC1-watching families.
And so today. A Nato-sized lunch courtesy of Helen who came around to cook mothers’ day lunch in our oven on account of us having a bigger kitchen and lounge. All very civilised with six veg and butternut squash, universally declared to be ‘carrot things’ by those who had never seen them before.
Vaguely impressed myself by making vegetable gravy from scratch, not powder, and finding it to be edible after all.
So after all that, then tea and cake with mum for a second mothers’ day do of the day, I don’t much feel like eating for the rest of the week.
Yum.
