Never has food shopping been so satisfying. I had a nibble before I went, of course, or I would have ended up buying the whole shop, and that would have been a very “bad thing” indeed.
After weeks of eating strange food combinations so I could clear out my cupboards and freezer I finally got to the final three cans - mixed bean salad, mandarin segments and a jar of custard. Unable to make anything sensible out of that lot I could finally go out and restock.
I felt like a 29 year old kid in a rather sensible sweet shop, buying all the things I’ve wanted for weeks but done without. I now have a lifetime supply of pasta, sauces, beans and spaghetti, a gourmet selection of soups and bucketloads of canned veg. In fact, I went a bit mad in the can isles and loaded my trolley so full I couldn’t get anything for the freezer.
It’s a miracle the bag handles held out.
I took them home and cleaned out what was let in the cupboards where I found packets of powdered sauce mix with best before dates topping out in 1996. I was still living at home back then so they must have been bequeathed when I left.
It was all very satisfying in a geeky kind of way. Everything is neatly stacked and facing front and it’s surprising how much space there is since I cleaned the treacle and soy sauce stains off the shelving. Enough room, in fact, to go back and buy half as much again, but then I suspect the cupboards would fall of the wall.
Nattered to Trevor for a while on the phone, then flopped down on the settee to eat, watch The Office and listen to a recording of last week’s London This Week. Rather enjoyed it. You don’t have any idea how it sounds when you’re presenting it, so it’s good to look back as a detached third party a week later on.
My freezer is still empty. A job for tomorrow.

I can’t seem to get the recordings of the Lab or the Sunday show now that the LBC site is down? Do you have some secret website where the re-runs are being kept?
