Another strange early-waking situation saw me out of bed and replying to emails by nine. I was very tempted to use two planned trips out today as an excuse for not going to the gym, but my conscience got the better of me, and I put in an hour on the running machine and cross trainer before heading around to mum’s for lunch.
Jess was being very wary. Next door has been looking after a couple of dogs for the last few days and they’ve been running out through their fence into the meadow, then around into mum’s garden and Jess’s territory. The dogs have gone home now, but Jess is still walking around with her tummy rubbing along the ground, sniffing carefully everywhere she goes.
We had pasta and I sat around reading the Guardian for a while, then headed off towards South Woodham Ferrers to see Mark and Ja. It felt like ages since I’d seen them, but is probably only a few weeks in reality.
I was the first to arrive, and over the course of the after noon Alison and Andy, Daniel the spaniel and Justin Juice and, eventually, Niall knocked on the door and joined us in the lounge for tea.
Mark had an early copy of the next edition of Soldiers of Love back from the studio, and Alison had a new CD of her singing, so we sat listening for a while, then played a word association game with cards and pads of paper and before we knew what time it was it was already too dark for us to see without the lights on and we’d all drunk far too much tea.
Niall turned up at half seven, just as myself, Daniel the spaniel and Justin Juice were heading off. Let’s hope he didn’t take it too personally.
