Woohoo! I passed the 50,000 word mark on my novel with almost a week to spare, which means I’ve written the equivalent of a 175-page book in three weeks.
Rather disappointingly, the 50,000th word was ‘was’. Something like ‘clandestine’, ‘invade’ or ‘annihilate’ would probably make the story sound a whole heap more interesting, but ‘was’ is a perfectly serviceable word. It’s dependable, understandable and friendly, and has a nice lack of pretention.
The count now stands at a little over 51,000, so I’ll have to set myself a new target. A further 20,000 by the middle of next month should be doable, and it’ll take me up to 70,000, which I reckon will be a little over half way through the storyline from the way things are panning out.
It’s all a bit confusing trying to monitor my progress, really, as the book is in three parts. The first part, as it’s laid out, is really the middle chapter, which binds parts one and three together. Part two finishes just after the lead up to part one, and part three picks up where part one left off, which means part one really has to be written after part two.
Ummm…

though i must say that the bit about how you are going to write part 1 after part 2 is a little confusing. but hey writing something is never a linear process in the first place. :0
