The Lord of the Rings is a fantastic film. Everyone said it was but I didn’t believe it could be that good. And it’s so LOUD! The effects, the virtual sets - I couldn’t fault any of it, and it even explained all the bits I’d not picked up from the book, which is good because it means I’llbe more with it when I read the second one next year.
It’s been a long day. Dad was up at half six, packing to leave, and when he went at half seven I got up to say goodbye, then stole the duvet from his bed and went back to the settee for another hour’s sleep. I didn’t realise until he’d been in bed and asleep for half an hour last night that my bedding was shut in his room where I’d tidied it away before Sal and Dan came around, so I had to use a thin cushion for a pillow and a travel rug instead of a duvet.
I spent the morning tidying away the bits and bobs he’d left behind, but I’ll do the real clean tomorrow when Oscar and his litter tray have gone, too.
He has been very affectionate today. I think something frightened him this morning and I’m guessing it was the bin men who emptied the wheelie bins at the back of the flats but left enough on the floor for the neighbourhood cats to have quite a feast. Sal came around to collect the coat she’d left behind yesterday and he wouldn’t come out from under the settee. He hid away again when the bottle collectors came and started throwing glass into big metal bins on the back of their truck. After that he spent the rest of the day peering around corners with a wobbly tail.
I was rather productive for the rest of the afternoon. I did some emails asking for guests for a show at the end of January, and did some more work on the book, which is shaping up quite nicely in my head now, but barely exists on paper yet.
Paul called, and just after four, after a call from dad to say he was safely home, I went round to his so that we could swap Christmas presents and eat mince pies. It’s a good job we did, because the film was at seven so we didn’t have time for dinner and after getting lost trying to find the cinema didn’t have time to grab much in the way of food. We came out famished.
