It’s good to be back. No matter how much you’ve enjoyed yourself while you’ve been away, it’s always nice to get back to your own bath and your own radio and your own kettle and know you can make yourself a cup of tea whenever you want one.
I’m so glad I packed light. I forced myself to cram everything into the bag I use for my gym kit, which was a godsend when it came to carrying it on and off TGVs. Miraculously, though, everything went to plan. The trains all ran on time (well, the French ones, at least - the trip from home to London was somewhat abortive when it turned out there were no trains from Chelmsford and nobody at the station knew when then next one would be along. I suggested they try using the phone but apparently it was impossible for them to get information that way).
I think I have a bit of a tan, but won’t know for sure until tomorrow when we’re having a family dinner, which is always the traditional time for ‘aren’t you brown’ or ‘oh, you obviously saw a lot of rain’ type comments.
I can’t say I’ve missed being here. I’ve been checking the weather and it looks like it’s been pretty grim. France, on the other hand, and both Lyon and Provence in particular, were fantastic, with only one day of rain, which we saw as our opportunity to sit in the launderette and get our clothes washed.
Photos are online in the gallery. Look under the heading ‘France’. Obviously.
