Jess is unwell

She’s not been right for a while. Just when I got back from my travels we were taking her to the vet every couple of days for antibiotics, and for a while it looked like she was getting better.
But this last week or so her breathing has been getting more laboured. By last night she couldn’t sit still without heaving on every breath, her head bobbing up and down like a wooden fairground horse. So, we took her to the vet this morning and he drew 200ml of fluid out of her lungs. That’s about two-thirds of a can of Coke’s worth from a cat no more than a foot in length.
The x-rays showed some light and dark patches on her lungs, and the fluids show signs of infection, so have to be sent away for tests. They want to see whether bacteria grow from them in a lab. She, meanwhile, has to stay with the vet, living in a little cage to make sure she gets complete rest and doesn’t move around.
The house feels very empty without her. I keep popping my head around the lounge door every time I go downstairs to see if she’s there on her cushion, forgetting for a moment that she won’t be.

My thoughts are with you and the little animal. I hope she gets better soon.
