The tube was particularly unpleasant. I pushed my way onto a packed carriage at Liverpool Street and ended up standing next to a man who had clearly wet himself. This would not have been so bad had a train not broken down at Tottenham Court Road and stalled us for ten minutes at Bank. As people slowly filtered off I worked my way down the carriage to get away from the smell.
That seems like a long time ago now. I’m still in the office and it’s almost nine at night. We’re at the end of the issue and there is so much to read before it goes off to get printed. I’m also getting in words for next month’s issue, which Production will need to have on the page by next week. I had been planning to go to the gym, but I think it’s a bit late now. It will be after ten when I get back to Chelmsford and as it closes at even that doesn’t give much time for changing and showers.
A story in this morning’s Independent made me wonder whether mobile phone spam calls are a good thing after all. A climber was clinging for dear life onto the ledge of a cliff. On the verge of falling off, his phone rang. It was a salesman hoping to make some quick commission. The inevitable happened, and the guy was eventually saved.
It’s far more useful than the ‘delivered by hand’ envelope poked through my letterbox yesterday. Inside was an invitation to have the outside of my property rendered to protect it from the weather. I started to fill in the pre-paid reply slip to ask why anyone would deliver such a blatantly useless offer ‘by hand’ to a flat in a block of six, but in the end gave up and dropped it in the bin.
Somehow I suspect that rendering just my flat would not be appreciated.
The building would look like a battenburg cake.

A double glazing and conservatory company once rang me to say that I had been hand picked to have a top of the range conservatory built… and possibly free of charge if I allowed them to use the photos as future publicity. After a long and detailed sales pitch she asked if I was interested. I said that I was very interested in having one of their conservatories fitted - given that I lived in a 2nd floor flat. Click…brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
