Mark’s birthday

The party season is finally drawing to a close. As far as London is concerned, anyway. A choice of four this evening, so opted for Mark’s birthday and spurned the freebie alternatives.
We ended up at Porters, again, which is rapidly becoming the (overpriced) regular. It’s local if nothing else. And less dingy than the John Snow which was, after all, named after a guy famed for mapping the spread of cholera through Soho.
It was packed and they wouldn’t let us book any tables, in spite of the fact downstairs was empty at least until I left a couple of hours later. Loads of non-regulars there - including Gordon, so we sat and mapped out tomorrow evening’s programme - the last one. I think we’ve done more planning for this one than we ever have before. I’ll be sad when we’re done. Thursday nights aren’t about working, really - it’s a chance to have fun with friends, see mates from other magazines, and chat to people on the phones.
Alarm is set for the final breakfast show insert.
Have been listening to a lot of BBC7 over the last couple of days. Have made three important discoveries:
- Steptoe and Son is even less amusing without the pictures. If possible.
- Yes Minister works better on TV.
- I don’t understand The Shuttleworths.
I’ll persevere.
