Greetings from a crappy dial-up connection. Broadband has disappeared. My iPod has packed up, too. I took it into work and even there it couldn’t be forced to talk to any other bit of hardware. It’s probably just coincidence that it went kaput shortly after being plugged into a PC for the first time, which I don’t think it was too happy about.

It’ll charge happily enough, so the cable is fine, but when you plug it in it just can’t be seen. It’s also losing track of some of the albums I’ve ripped onto it. Someone, and it’s probably best I can’t remember who, suggested it was the taste filter kicking in, but as both lost albums were A-ha that’s clearly can’t be true.

Hmmm.

Interviewed today for this week’s PR Week, and yesterday for the Press Gazette, both of which are apparently writing stories on my new job, so I’ll have to remember to hunt them down at the end of the week. They have good reputations for accuracy and the reporters called to check their facts so I’m not worried about what they might write, but last time I was interviewed it was for one of the national papers and I got horribly mis-quoted.

What was said:

Interviewer: I’ve got some statistics here that show that 50% of all new PCs are broken when they are delivered.
Me: Erm… I think you might have got that wrong. That figure is way too high.

…and what appeared in print:

Statistics reveal that 50% of all new PCs are broken when they are delivered. Nik Rawlinson, deputy editor of Personal Computer World agrees that this figure is way too high and something needs to be done…

I didn’t bother chasing it up.
