New design

Ooh, how exciting. Not only a new, simpler design, but also new software running the back end.
Greymatter has served me well for a couple of years now, but it was time to move on to something more powerful so that the site could be more flexible and dynamic in the future. I wanted to do things that it just couldn’t cope with.
So, the last couple of days I’ve been gradually installing MovableType in the background so that I can take advantage of its better features. I’m not using any of them yet, but now that it is up and running they are ready to be put to use.
I thought I’d also use this as an opportunity to simplify the design, which should hopefully make the site easier to navigate from now-on.
Now all I have to do is roll out the new design across the other 2,400 pages of the site…
Another day, I think.
Anyhow, I’m counting this as a successful conclusion to an otherwise fairly mundane day, which started off with a continuation of this week’s theme of bad trains.
A fire on a train at Ingatestone, then points problems somewhere near Ilford. Got to London late only to find the Central Line closed ‘indefinately’ to all places west of Liverpool Street. Plan B was to jump on the Circle Line, which I did, only to discover half way around the northern loop that there was a fire alert at Kings Cross, so it was being closed.
Whoever promised us the future would be full of remote offices where we all work from home in our slippers, sipping tea and playing with the cat all day long (a very Blofelt image) was merely being cruel.
Swam when I got home. Quite surprised myself.
