First day back at the office, and to get me into the swing of things there is no useable tube service from Liverpool Street. The Central Line still isn’t going anywhere near the middle of the city and signal problems at Kings Cross has scuppered the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines.

Which of course meant the buses were all full.

So I walked an hour into the office and was late.

Still, the sun was shining and all along the way there were people sitting on patches of grass enjoying it with big happy smiles. There were even builders wolf-whistling at the short-skirted women. I thought nobody did that since the 1980s. It was almost quite embarassing (the whistling, that is - not the skirts).

So, a day of getting used to the bad drinks in the complimentary vending machine, ploughing through a thousand pieces of email, four fifths of which was spam, and wondering why I don’t have any voicemail - was it wiped in my absence?

Susie came along on the 4pm coffee run to see how I’d got on with my writing last week. It was because of her that I did so much. On my last day in the office before the break we had been sitting in the Movie Cafe, chatting about what I’d do on my week, and the fact I needed to think seriously about the book. She made me promise I’d do some planning for it, and she’d check on me to make sure I’d done it when I got back, so she was shocked to hear how much I’d done.

I made the mistake of saying I want to get it up to 50,000 words within the next three weeks, to which she’s now holding me.

Still, it’s another dose of well-needed motivation.

Gymmed with Kevin tonight. Swimming this time, which he doesn’t like. He stopped 10 lengths before me, which considering he can lift about a third more than me on the weights seems only fair.

Not that I took advantage of the chance to gloat.

Not much.
