iPods are flying into the building at an astonishing rate now. It seems everyone has cottoned on to this 30% journalist discount, and as such it’s coming to a close next week - or so the story goes. Every time a nine-inch square box arrives in the postroom it’s obvious what it is, and slowly you can see the gaps in the each magazine between those who have iPods and those who don’t closing up.
Work on the last minute feature continues apace, with it being dropped onto the page and lined up nicely today, and almost ready for proofing by six. It’s great to see it come together, and in spite of the fact I’m weary after being so late in the office with Mark last night getting it finished I’m very happy with the way it’s looking.
The rest of my time was spent either doing my best to fix Orak who now has a cavernous new hard drive but seems to have forgotten how to work his network card, keeping me offline and away from my email for yet another day, or down in the lab testing and writing and thinking about packing my stuff into boxes. Seems I’m moving desks again - the fifth time in five years, which makes for a nice round average.
It’s a shame, as I like where I’m sitting at the moment. I have a window for the sun, a wall on which to stick stupid pictures of the team, and a good view of the vending machine and half of the floor. It looks like wherever I go I’m going to lose either the view or the window.
Of course, that could all be solved with the help of a few mirrors, some string, a couple of pulleys…
