The show ticket for next week’s trip to Berlin arrived this morning. I wasn’t entirely convinced it would considering how difficult it was to get hold of. The covering letter was all in German but Mark said it was something about ‘here is your ticket and these are the opening times’. I’m very impressed. Once I’d got past the inefficient Brit representatives and faxed my request off to Germany they got it here in about two days flat.

Wrote my application for the Editor job this morning. In the current responsibilities section I put ‘day to day running of the magazine in the absence of the Editor in Chief’, which is true and I hope will put me in good stead. I have my interview at 10.30 on Tuesday. I guess they’ll base the questions on my application.

Lunched in Soho Square with the usual lot. This is becoming quite a fixture. We sit there people watching. It’s surprising how much you can tell about people (or think you can tell about people but probably can’t) when you’ve had a few days practice. It’s a funny mix in Soho Square. Very old people in underwear, young people reading books, very gay after 5 when they buy drinks at The Edge and sit on the grass in pairs.

I went back to the office at 2 by way of Europa Food and spent the afternoon writing my first group test in eighteen months. I really enjoyed it. I used to hate them, but it was nice to be able to sit down in the lab with a keyboard and be creative. By early evening most of the writing team was in there as we all seem to be on deadlines at the moment, which was lively and actually quite fun. I’d really like to be able to get away from my desk more often like that.

Evening in with Paul watching Stepford Wives and eating grapes.
