Paw Paws, as I discovered today, are not nearly as cute as the name suggests. It made me think of kittens, and the label on it said ‘try me for free’, so I threw it in the basket with everything else (a surprisingly healthy basket, actually - three kinds of fruit, some lettuce and a low-fat yoghurt).

Anyhow, there is nothing remotely cute about something with that many seeds in it - each of which looks like the freshly plucked eye of a herring, staring and glistening.

It tasted OK. Nothing special, though. In fact, it tasted a bit unclean, so nothing like the melon-cum-peach the label promised.

I shaln’t be claiming back the cost, though. For one thing it would be stingy. For another, I can’t be bothered to write the essay they want from you. You have to give them your thoughts on paw paws and detail how you went about eating it. I suspect a discourse on kittens and fish is a long way from what they’re after.

The combination flavouring of melon, peach and cum would have given me enough clues as to leave this yoghurt well alone Nik. The latter being absolutely off putting, although full of nutrients I am told.

you need to know how to prepare it. Eat the fruit when it’s just going slighly soft - not too hard - not over-ripe.
Scrape the gunk out of the middle.
Cut the flesh out and dice it. Dont cut too close to the skin as it’s bitter.
Sprinkle with sugar, and a combination of freshly squeezed orange and lemon juice.
Then wolf the whole lot down as quickly as possible. Yum.
(Watch those juices dont dribble down your chin. Get paul to lick them off if they do.)
Oh - and see if you can find a giant one somewhere. None of these poxy little 5-6″ specimins you get here. Search out one of the 9″ big juicy ones next time youre abroad. Not that I’m insinuating you might want to try being a size queen. It’s just useful in this situation ;) (Oops. Sorry. Not sure how this turned into near soft porn.)
