So Monday night was this year’s PC Pro Awards. It used to be much earlier in the year, but then Mac Expo moved, which meant our awards moved, and so Pro relocated to December. It was a very good night.

We were at The Brewery on Old Street, which is just a congested cab ride from the office, and all bunking up in a hotel nearby, where the showers lacked enough pressure to wash away your fuzzy head next morning, but they did at least drop a generous compliment of tea bags beside each bed.

Highlights of the evening? Many and varied. The food, for starters, was excellent, although they were particularly sniffy about the whole vegetarian thing, briefly dropping a plate in front of me and whisking it away because they wanted to give it to someone else, who apparently ‘had a vegetarian ticket’.

The guest list was full of people I’d not seen in ages, so there was plenty of catching up to do, and I ended up sitting in the table of a well-known camera manufacturer who, surprised at the age of the snapper I was using, swapped it for their own for an instant free upgrade.

Naturally many, many pictures were taken - it was a room full of IT hacks, inventors and distributors, after all, and they’re now peppering Flickr accounts nationwide. Fortunately the worst ones of me seem to be locked up, although there’s always the risk they’ll appear somewhere over on Potunkey eventually.

For now, though, this one of me and Jem, our party organiser, is at least semi-presentable.

Unlike the famous woman in the blue dress who, as Dave described her, ‘moved from table to table in the dining room like a terrified passenger trying to escape from a miniature spaceship trapped in a pinball table’.

Genius.
