Tesco, last night, was absolutely heaving. Long queues at the checkouts at midnight, and not much more than a dozen spaces left in the car park. Looks like everyone left their shopping until late - it was probably empty at half seven.

In spite of the late night spending, though, was up early this morning, and in the office well before ten. Opened a couple of bottles of champagne, and a couple of wine, to have with the bagels, mince pies, croissants and panetonni we’d brought in for breakfast.

Very strange. Only five of us in, on a floor that would comfortably seat 100. A hybrid mix of Kylie and Herb Alpert playing loud in the background. Another postcard from my Polish correspondent landed on my desk. He writes every few months, scrounging freebies that I never send. Today:

Please send me - I very need - f.o. all - magazines - “P.C.W.” - Dec., Nov., Oct./2002 - AND - Jan./2003 - too - CD-Rom(s), Disk.- - 3.5; 5.25; labels, adhesives, Etiq., Booklets, Pocketbooks, Shirts - L, XL, XXL, Pens, - oth. - advert materials - Pack/gift., For all V. Very many thanks!

I wait for Q. Quick Answer!

V. Very/well stick pack., please!!!

From what I can gather, he wants me to send pens, shirts (for large people), notebooks, loads of stickers and some gifts. And some ‘Etiq’, whatever that is. He also wants to make sure I package it up very well for him.

Nice Mont Blanc pen in the post. A cool final PR gift of the year.

So, in spite of the food and drink we got a fair amount done, then knocked off after lunch to meet Spen and Ben in a pub south of Euston. We sat outside for three hours, it was that warm. It was as well I didn’t have the car as I was in no fit state for driving when we left, which would have got it locked into the car park until the other side of Christmas.

Helped Spen carry an enormous set of six speakers back to the tube. It seemed very funny at the time. Don’t know why now. Ate some fast food rubbish and slouched on the train (Saturday service) all the way back home. Decided to walk from there rather than decode the bus timetable, then collapsed in a chair and slowly recovered with mugs of tea in front of Monsters Inc.

Cooked dinner for dad and Paul. Watched rubbish on TV. Work is over for a week.

So here it is Merry Christmas, everybody’s having fun
Look to the future now it’s only just begun
