The Oxford Street Megastore has been rearranged. It’s now so confusing I got lost in there twice today. Once before work, once at lunchtime, hunting for a birthday present. I gave up in the end and went to HMV where I was tempted by the stack of Electric at the door.
I was determined to be good, but I remember practically every track from my time at Thorpe Radio (and growing up) and had to have it. We’re all of a similar age in the office, so after an afternoon of wordstorming (it was brainstorming, but Debbie pointed out that that’s now politically incorrect) we had a quick session of guessing the tracks from their instrumental breaks.
I did very poorly indeed, even with the track listing, but then I have the excuse of being only five when the oldest two (Gary Numan, Cars and M, Pop Muzik) were released, so I think a little leeway should be allowed.
Dealt with some follow-up emails from the Hebrides trip and fleshed out some ideas for the show. Unfortunately none of them are do-able by this Thursday, but it’s good to get ahead of myself as Gordon is going to be away for three weeks from next week - off on his travels again. Right around the world this time.
Of course, I’m not envious.
Not at all.
Hmmm…
I’ve arranged to meet Neil for lunch tomorrow. I owe him after he bought last time. It’s always fun when we meet as he’s another radio fanatic. Only trouble is, tomorrow will mark four weeks since our last lunch and markers like that always make you realise how much - or how little - you have done in the meantime. With that in mind, I spent the evening doing some serious book planning. The story is shaping up nicely. The words, though, are not.

Oh my god that Electric set has bought back memories of my youth. I need it. By the way Nik you are officially my “tunes director”. When I read your journal and see what tracks you been listening to I think.. wow not heard that for ages I must dig it out and put it on!
