Chris of the Phin has gone. Off to Bath to join MacFormat, switching buses for a walk to work, the noise of New Cross for the peace of the west country, and a fortnightly dash for a monthly stroll towards publication.

So of course we decamped to a bar to say goodbye, despite his foolish decision to coincide his leaving do with the Eurovision semi-finals. Tsk.

He had a fantastic turn-out. It was like a MacUser reunion, and it was a busy night of chatting with old friends and catching up with unfinished stories.

I also bought Chris of the Phin’s bike, to save him working out how he’s going to move it down to the land of clotted cream. I am astounded at how much better it is than my existing bike. It practically rides itself up hills, whereas my old bike even needed pedal power to go in the same direction as gravity. The seat is comfortable, the gears work (a rare novelty in my recent cycling experiences) and the bell dings in perfect tune.

So Pegasus (Pedals) has a new life in the country now, like his previous owner, Chris of the Phin. I’m sure they’ll both be happy in their new homes.
