At the age of 28 I’ve suddenly hit 50. Monday night’s late night out is still dragging me down, and I ended up catching the last possible train to work this morning to still get in on time. Actually, that’s a bit of a lie. I was on the platform in time for the train that went just before it, but that was Great Eastern, and the Anglia train was right behind so I let it go so I could read my proofs in comfort.
I arrived, tea in hand, one minute late to the news I’d need to get all of the team appraisals done by the end of the year which, with a week’s holiday to take, is five days shorter than planned.
I’d been intending to go to the gym on the way home. The last time I made it was Sunday and I’ve had clean (cold) kit sitting in the car since Monday morning. I’m feeling distinctly guilty about not going, which is probably a good thing. I’m having a subconscious fat moment, too. I’ve been 63Kg (about 10 stone) for five years. Through Christmas, summer and all the other usual times of fluctuation I’ve stuck rigidly at that weight, regardless of which scales I use, so I know that not going to the gym has no effect on how much I weigh.
On Monday Mark came back from holiday with donuts and cookies, though, and yesterday we had a big bag of chocolate and marzipan from some supplier or other, and I’m feeling foolishly guilty about eating them - actually, no, that’s not true - it’s not running them off at the gym that I feel bad about.
Anyhoo, I never made it this evening, either. I worked late on guests for the show tomorrow night and then went round to Mum’s to pick up my Amazon order and the digital radio I ordered from Psion.
Of course, I checked it would work in this area before I bought it and it came up with “You have an excellent chance of receiving a strong digital radio signal in this area.” Fair enough. So I ordered it.
Now that I’ve unboxed it, it’s much larger than I remembered it when we had one in on review. The software installed fine, but it’s decidedly sniffy about the strength of the signal round here. Almost right away it found the Digital1 multiplex but was showing an OK-to-weak reception, so I moved it to try and improve things. It’s never reappeared since. Even putting it back where it found it doesn’t seem to get it back. This looks like it might soon become a long-term project.
