I’m feeling very proud of myself this evening. I went to the gym with a mission, and added twenty lengths onto my swimming record. Now I feel all taught and just a little woosy. My eyes and feet are already asleep - only my fingers are moving as I sit here slumped in my seat, typing but barely moving.

Kevin had been working late last night, so couldn’t make it to the gym. I texted him as I walked home to rearrange for tonight, bumping into Three Counties Neil as I hit send. Strange coincidence. I’d been thinking about him as I walked down the street and he was next on my mental texting list.

We did a meedjya ‘let’s do lunch’, made vague arrangements to email tomorrow and then went our respective ways.

As it turned out, Kevin couldn’t make it. He’d texted back a yes but between then and him answering his door in sun glasses and a wide open dressing gown he’d had a crisis call from a friend and his plans had understandably changed. I had been hoping he would be my motivation to swim swim swim - I’ve been doing sneaky practice lengths without him so wanted to see how we now compared - but took the opportunity to test my resolve and did the same without him.

So now I feel doubly good.

And even more so for not being distracted by the lads in the jacuzzis who kept standing up and whipping off their shorts, much to the amusement of the girls.
