Did my homework on the train, as per homework etiquette, and arrived at the training sweatshop four minutes before start time, so eight minutes earlier than yesterday, and was still the first to appear. It was so hot again, and by 4 o’clock we had 35 pages of the flip pad blue-tacked to the walls, which was enough to sound the home time bell.

I could have gone into the office and written my column, but I knew I’d get it done far quicker if I worked on it at home without the distraction of two days’ worth of email and voicemail to catch up on.

I detoured by way of the gym for some running and rowing and dropped 300 calories, then left so I could pick up the email on my personal account before the end of the working day. I’d discussed the bits of the book contract I’m a bit worried about with the other people on the course and they said my concerns were fully justified, so I was keen to see what feedback publisher Joyce had sent.

Unfortunately, there was none. If there’s still nothing tomorrow I’ll send a follow-up and see how things are progressing. I imagine it’s back with their lawyers for discussion. I don’t see why I should agree to keep them updated with any changes to the subject matter from the moment I finish the book and for all time without being paid for it.

Got my column done, and then fiddled around with a little javascript syndication applet that drags the contents of the current entry out of my diary and dumps it onto any site that implements the script, which means anyone with a site can have fresh content drawn from nik.co.uk without them having to do anything to change it each day. If they really want it… I guess it’s more of a technology piece than anything.

To bed, now, to revise www.myveggiepatch.com for tomorrow morning’s breakfast show trail.
