I have finally finished - and submitted - my tax return. Well, I’ve sent it to my accountant which I hope means that besides writing a cheque for the shortfall it should now be out of my hands. I don’t know why it’s taken me until today to get it done, from when the demand came through last April. Laziness, I think. Plus my bank being generally ignorant about how much interest it has paid me this year.
Now much as I love Holland and the Dutch (I worked for a Dutch firm for almost eight years, after all) I can’t help but hold the whole thing against them. According to Wikipedia, it was pretty much started up in 1665 as the Board of Taxes, but since that war ended two years later I can’t help but feel it’s pretty unfair to still be paying taxes, even if we did go back on the peace treaty by ganging up aganst them with the French a few years later.
So, I propose boycotting windmills, edam clogs and pornography until income tax is repealed.
