I am rather proud of the fact that I have managed to get to the gym every morning before work so far. I know that’s only really two times (and today feels more like a Tuesday than a Thursday) but after almost two weeks of leisurely mornings and with the nasty cold weather (the Chelmer is still frozen) I’ve impressed myself.

It was really bizarre knowing it was a Thursday and not having to do the show this evening. James was filling in still, in the last of his two weeks of Christmas cover for the LBC@7 shows. I used my free time wisely with a trip to Sainsbury’s then cooked dinner for me and Paul. Potato, onion and carrot mash with mustard.

Yum.

I finished my column this morning. The conclusion was a bit tricky and so needed a bit of thought so it was probably as well I didn’t try and rush it through yesterday afternoon. I was waiting for some quotes to come through from a guy in America, and they appeared in my inbox some time overnight along with a nice thank-you for calling him up and asking him questions. Everyone else who has written a column on the subject so far has apparently done it off the top of their heads and got their facts wrong. From the way the statement is worded you can see they’re frustrated about it.

I feel absolutely exhausted. The days seem to stretch on for ever. I think my body is having trouble adjusting to the idea of structure and routine again. It didn’t help that I spent the whole of the afternoon just correcting the grammar of a 16-page section. It reads well now that it’s finished, but it was hard work.

I’ve been reading through some of the earlier entries in this diary and came across a reference to cutoffmyfeet.com where the guy was raising sponsorship money to cut off his feet (obviously) live online. $20 a pop to watch it happen. The money would be used to pay for prosthetic replacements and physiotherapy. I even plugged it on the radio and wrote a column about it.

Well, he was supposed to do it back in September so I went back to check out the results, but it seems it was postponed. He’s doing an interview tour at the moment and plans to have them chopped on January 5th.

We shall see…

I can’t help thinking if I’d paid $20 to see them being chopped off last autumn I’d be pretty miffed if I was still waiting, though.
