The house

It’s decidedly mixed news on the house. Most of it bad.
I got back there tonight - in the rain - to find that a heavy storm had knocked the potato plants flat. That’s not such a problem on the paved patio where they’re growing in dedicated potato bags, with appropriate drainage holes, but on the brick patio, where they’re growing in a large black bin (new potatoes) and a trug (main crop) without adequate drainage it’s another matter.
Fortunately the leaf canopy used to stop quite a lot of the rain from getting through to the soil and turning it into a bog, but with that now knocked out of the way, I’m not sure how they’ll survive.
Anyhow, that’s the least of my concerns, as the builder, has effectively walked off the job of renovating the house, claiming he doesn’t have enough time to do anything more there before going on his holiday. That leaves me with a list of jobs that need doing - including installing the bathroom - and nobody to do them.
I realise that the number of jobs we asked to be done has increased over time, but still we had booked him in to work all of this week, and he has actually only turned up for one day due to having other clients that also need work doing. If we hadn’t booked him way back in April, that might not have been quite so galling. Neither would his advice that we ‘find someone else’.
So, the hunt is on for a new builder, and preferably one who comes recommended by family or friends.
In other news, the rainy ride home meant my watch got wet. And now it’s stopped working.
