The cheese winder continues to prove elusive. We drove down to Basildon today. The rain and traffic only made it worse. A man with a wide plank of wood turned around at the back of the queue for the Homebase cash desk and smacked it into me as I walked past with my little green basket. He looked at me as though I had hurt his wood.
The wood said nothing.
They had plenty of plants and bins and the washers Paul wanted, but I bought nothing and we drove back to Chelmsford, ten minutes late, with the windscreen wipers switched on all the way. The floodplain has flooded again but they’re still building flats along its edge.
We lunched with Paul’s parents to mark his dad’s birthday, and while they went off to the garden centre to buy him a present I drove to mum’s to fix her PC, which lost its voice a fortnight ago and hasn’t spoken since.
I did the techincal, less obvious things for fifteen minutes. It was only then that I checked the plug. It would have saved time (and three reboots) if I’d done that first.
I was dispatched with what remained of last night’s pasta, and ran for half an hour, feeling the remains of a large lunch bob up and down inside me.
