Somehow, and I’m not entirely certain how, I ended up on the 7.32 train this morning, and was in an empty office before half eight. Very eerie. CNN was chattering away to itself in reception with nobody watching. It was a good half hour before anyone else started to arrive, so I ploughed through a big pile of emails and post, which included a nice little bottle of Absolut vodka and a shot glass.
In my two days off the work had really stacked up. Everything was up to date before I left, but suddenly features had arrived that were ready for editing, and the reviews deadline is looming. I spent much of the morning chasing it all up, and after lunch made a concerted effort to get on with packing everything up ready for the office move on Friday. I found so much junk that I’d kept for one reason or another - even an unopened box of the Twister game - that I have absolutely no use for whatsoever. I haven’t a clue why I kept it all.
One slight spanner in the works is that LINX has finally come through with a confirmed date for me to visit them, and it’s on Friday - moving day. This is something I’ve been trying to get sorted out for ages, and it’s not been happening for one reason or another. It’s also very difficult to actually get an invite to come inside (it’s Telehouse, too - the central hub of the Internet in the UK) so I don’t want to turn it down, which rather shortens the packing-up deadline.
It’s very therapeutic having a good clear out once in a while, so I’m going to try and restrict myself to taking just one crate of stuff up to my new desk. I’ll have to sneak bits and pieces into other peoples’ crates if I overspill :o)
Popped around to mum’s on the way home to pick up cake, stroke the cat and show her (mum, not the cat) how to back up onto CD-ROM.
I’m still thirty minutes’ worth of guests short for this week’s show.
