I thought the breakfast show call wasn’t coming this morning. I sat by the phone, stroking the cat and wondering whether I should call them, or whether the phone wasn’t working. As it turns out, they had been calling the ISDN line at home, not having realised I’m cat sitting. It was switched off, of course, so was refusing to ring.

They eventually worked it out, though, and the phone sprang to life. It was 7.50 by then and there was barely enough time to check how loud I was before it was time to start talking. It went well. Simon (Bates) started talking about something very closely related to the topics I’d prepared but I wasn’t entirely sure whether he was giving me an opportunity to slip into my subject very smoothly. I think he was, but as I didn’t snap at the bait he did it for me and it all sounded as though it had been planned.

Somehow, in spite of that, I managed to get into the office early and sat there with the weather coming in through the window and warming my desk and arm. It felt lovely. I feel so much more cheerful now the summer is here. It sounds like it may hold out for a few days, too.

…I can hear the cat coughing. I hope she’s not about to be sick…

The day fairly flew by. After yesterday’s analysis of how I write, and the realisation that I only write with one rule in mind - never address the audience, I received a very nice email from Kev, an apparent regular visitor.

I listen to the Lab on LBC, in fact LBC in general… I find your site compulsive and look forward to your daily updates in the diary, so much so that I am thinking of setting up one of my own… Your days seem very interesting and I hope you keep it up.

I hope today’s entry isn’t too much of a disappointment. I’m desperately trying to think of the most interesting thing that happened so I won’t be a disappointment, but to be honest it was a fairly regular Thursday.

The show went well, which was nice. Some weeks we just click and I think this week was one of those. With 30-seconds notice I was asked to talk about the Queen Mother memorial site immediately after the 8pm news. Fortunately I’d had a brief look at it when it first went up on Saturday, so I think I carried it off OK. Perhaps I could have done better, though.

I’ll have a listen to the archive and check it out at the weekend.

The cat has been sick.

I think she’s been out eating mice.
