Today too soon

I never sleep well on Thursdays - too much adrenaline, I think. I must have passed out as soon as I lay down last night, though, and it was today before I knew anything about. Too late into today to be on time for work, unfortunately, but today nonetheless.
I had been intending to go to the travel clinic on the way into the office and check up on the malaria situation around Seoul, so in the end dumped my bag under the desk and ran out again before anyone could ask me to do anything. It turns out I needn’t have nothered. All they do when you get there is look it up on the net and I could have done that from my desk. Was ignored in the coffee shop for 10 minutes on the way back to the office so walked out in a huffy fit and got some vile slop from the machine instead.
Opened my email to find a nice little note from Gordon saying he enjoyed last night’s show. It’s a shame he couldn’t make it, but at least it gave him a chance to see what it sounds like from home. He said it sounded like some of the phone guests were in the studio - ‘medium wave is surprisingly forgiving’.
Mid-afternoon, a softie quite spectacularly shot himself in the foot when he rang up to pitch some software. ‘Of course,’ he said. ‘PCW is one of our main titles we like to focus on, and we only have three copies of this product available for review so of course we want you to have one. Do you think you could tell us whether or not it has won an award before you publish, though, so we can put it on the box?’
Errr… no.
‘Oh, I see. Well, I’ll have to see if the client is still willing to send the product to you. You don’t mind, do you?’
Of course I don’t mind. If he wants to try and bribe his way to an award he can - it won’t work. He clearly doesn’t quite grasp the concept of impartiality.
I quite surprised myself and got everything I needed to do by a minute to six, bar clearing my desk, but it still took me until almost seven to get out of there by the time I’d remembered to change my voicemail and put an auto response on my email - something I always forget.
