Vote 2004

Hmmm… a fairly crappy day all in all. Of the jobs I wanted to get done, I’ve done… ooh… about one out of ten. That’s in spite of getting up at half six this morning and skipping the gym so I could get to work, then arriving home at 10 tonight.
It doesn’t help that the train network seems to have collapsed, after a couple of months good service since the franchise swap. Anyhow, having performed my civic duty and dropped a cross in a box to elect and official I wandered around the edge of the station, waiting for the platform to empty.
I ticked for the most pro-European candidate in the end. There’s no point voting in a European election for someone whose sole purpose in getting elected is to work towards disbanding the very body of which they are a member. You at least want someone who is going to use the opportunities it gives them to the full to the benefit of us all.
Fortunately there was no need to do any local electioneering, although that makes the Sky Vote 2004 special I’m watching as I type seem somewhat irrelevant as the European votes won’t be counted until Sunday.
They’re predicting the Tories will probably do fairly well in the locals, and that if it was a general election rather than a local Labour would end up staying in power although with a hung parliament, which won’t necessarily be a good thing. Such finely balanced parliaments rarely do anything decisive. That said, the Tories would have got 1,000,000 more votes than Labour, but because of the geography of the electoral wards the Blairites would have retained their majority in Parliament by about 2%.
Anyhow, the polls have been closed only an hour, so there have not yet been any results declared. Bed, I think, is a better option. I can look up the results in the morning.

Well I am glad someone got to vote! Our area was supposed to be a postal vote *only*, and guess what our papers never arrived. Maybe next time we will get to vote.
