Well, my plans to be good today fell to pieces when Emilie brought caramel waffles back from Amsterdam. It would have been rude not to have eaten one (three), and I’ve ended up bringing my unbuttered bagel home with me this evening.

It’s been a long day, kicking off with the usual Thursday morning breakfast show slot. I’d revised notes on Woolworths making plans to dump barcodes, but Simon (Bates) got chatting about his Apple Newton and we spent most of our time on that. It followed on into this evening’s programme, too.

Hid myself away in the lab after a fire drill this morning, and stayed there until leaving for ITN, alternately testing kit and reading proofs that are already overdue.

Got them done before I left, then walked quickly through Blomsbury to LBC.

Sorted out the usual pre-show bits and bobs, then sat down for a chat about the new Sunday show. We have a good guest list for the first programme. I feel very cheeky not having booked any of them myself.

After all that there was very little time for dinner, so I muched a quick sandwich then checked my stories online before Andrew and Roger arrived to do the news. Gordon was away so I’d asked them if they’d like to come on together and do an extra fifteen minutes.

The two hours flew by, as they always do on a busy show.

Crowded train full of drunks on the way home, opening shaken-up cans of lager and passing around trays of sausages. It was like a nightmare family barbeque with somebody else’s family.

Popped home briefly on the way around to cat sit to pick up the charger for my mobile. I forgot to take it when I left, but picked up my mail. Just as well - it contained my new contract.
