Plenty of blogs have been talking about George W and his stance on Iraq, but the best way to find out what’s going on must be to listen to him speak or, for those of us overseas, catch up on what he said with the transcripts on the White House web site. Here’s an enlightening excerpt from a speech he gave to East Literature Magnet School in Nashville, Tennessee, just last month:

There’s a lot of talk about Iraq on our TV screens, and there should be, because we’re trying to figure out how best to make the world a peaceful place. There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again. You’ve got to understand the nature of the regime we’re dealing with.

Well, I’m glad we’ve got that cleared up then.

It’s surprising what you can do when you put your mind to it. I now have a big stack of mail in the hall waiting to be posted after sorting out the letters that needed writing and the forms that have sat around waiting to be filled for the last three weeks.

I’ve also renewed my car insurance, after a lengthy hunt online. Mention the words ‘radio’ and ‘presenter’ and most of them run a mile. Especially the cheap ones on the telly. Settled with the AA in the end, which gave a discount for being a member and undercut my current policy by
