They predicted a fine morning and a wet afternoon, and they were right - in the extreme. I drove through beautiful blue skies and sunshine all the way to the new B&Q to look for photo frames, which apparently they don’t sell. I didn’t know this was its first weekend, which is why it was so busy and why I left so soon. I went to Sainsbury’s to buy wine for the guy that fixed my car while I was away and refused to take any payment. I made sure they didn’t have Sansburys on the label so I can pretend I brought them all the way back from Bordeaux.
I spent the day doing jobs while the weather went through a steady deterioration, and by the time Paul came round at five it was pouring down, and the wind had snapped a branch off the tree out front. He brought me belated birthday presents and I gave him a cup of tea, which seemed a fair swap :o)
Mum rang to discuss dinner, which she’d spent all afternoon putting together and we were going around to eat. Sal had come round and lifted the lid to smell it, and found a live tapeworm wiggling on the surface. Andrew was swiftly despatched to find an alternative, and the fish was re-wrapped for a trip back to Tesco tomorrow after work.
I said we’d leave right away, and we arrived to find them watching the depressing attacks on Afghanistan on the news. That went on most of the evening, although we broke for dinner and for more belated presents as the weather got steadily worse. By the time we left, the brick post-box on the green on the corner had been blown over and smashed.
Spent an hour reorganising the kitchen and listening to reports on the radio when I got home. The world is a very depressing place this evening.
