Why is going back to work never painless? I arrived in the office this morning to find my computer dead. There was a power spike in Soho a couple of days back and it seems it killed my PC.
Of course, I should have tried the obvious thing first and swapped out the power supply, but I stupidly decided to rebuild most of my machine inside another one. An hour later, still no luck. Hmmm… Well, it was a lesson if nothing else.
I had my original machine up and running again by lunchtime, almost in its original condition, albeit with a new power supply, and plunged into the 400 or so unread emails. After that it was inevitable that the afternoon would pass far more smoothly, and good progress was made.
Flicking through Hot Tickets on the train home after this evening’s show, I found what has to be the most bizarre and unmissable programme of the week. Quite apart from the fact it’s presented by Johnny Ball, the description alone makes it prescribed viewing:
